What RPL Is
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that recognises the skills, knowledge, and experience you’ve gained over time through work, training, or other learning.
It allows you to receive credit for what you already know, often reducing or removing the need for further study.
RPL works by reviewing the evidence you provide to confirm your competency against the qualification requirements.
Not everyone is eligible — only applicants with proven, relevant experience can enrol.

How to Manage Your Evidence
Simple rules to follow:
1. Start with the easy wins
Begin with documents that are quick to access. Build momentum before tackling the harder items.
2. Use one project as the base
Choose a single project and pull most of your evidence from it. This keeps the process faster and more consistent.
3. Protect confidential information
Feel free to remove private details. Assessors only need enough information to validate your experience.
4. Know how many documents to provide
• Smaller documents (quotes, invoices, risk assessments): around three examples.
• Larger documents (contracts, policies, building plans): one example is enough.
5. Submit evidence in rounds
You can submit evidence multiple times. Each round is reviewed with feedback provided.

Simple Steps in the RPL Process
Step 1: Confirm eligibility
Your initial assessment confirms if your experience meets the entry requirements.
Step 2: Enrol and pay
Once approved, payment and enrolment are processed.
Step 3: Access your RPL portal
You are given access to the secure Techskill RPL portal to upload your evidence.
Step 4: Receive your evidence list
You’ll get a tailored list of required documents based on your background.
Step 5: Submit evidence
Upload documents using the portal. The RPL Team reviews each submission and provides progress updates.
Step 6: Fill any gaps
You may be asked for extra documents, clarifications, or additional evidence such as short videos or interviews.
Step 7: Complete remaining units (if required)
If any competencies cannot be met through RPL, online units will be issued.
