If you’re thinking about studying an online course, you may be able to reduce the time it takes to get your qualification through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program. In some cases, you may not even need to study to get your qualification.
WHAT IS RPL?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a skills assessment process which allows you to use your existing skills, expertise, and work experience to demonstrate your competency in a particular field or industry.
For example, if you’ve worked on a construction site it may help you get a Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) CPC40120. Or your experience working in an office could be used towards a Diploma of Business Administration BSB50415.
Some courses may be RPL-only, such as an Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) CPC60220. But you will need at least three years of industry experience.
HOW DOES RPL WORK?
During your initial onboarding call we will ask questions about your work experience to get an understanding of your existing skills and knowledge, and compile an evidence list to help you understand what they need from you.
You will have seven calendar days to provide your assessor with the evidence of your skills and knowledge. They will then consider your application against the unit criteria. You may also need to provide contact details of two professional referees who have worked with you in the past.
If any knowledge gaps are identified further assessment such as additional documentation video or similar may be needed.
WHERE TO NOW?
RPL can help reduce the amount of study time required to complete a formal qualification.
