What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a skills assessment process where you can use your existing knowledge, skills, and experiences gained over the years within a specific field or industry, be it locally or internationally, to demonstrate your competency in particular unit/s and potentially convert them into a nationally recognised Australian qualification. 

What is the process to complete an RPL skills assessment?

There are three key elements in the  process that must be satisfied to receive an RPL outcome including:

  1. Onboarding Call –We will ask you questions about your work history and compile an evidence list to help you understand what is needed from you.
  2. Evidence & Mapping – The evidence list will be emailed to you to review and you will have up to seven calendar days to provide all documents. Our qualified assessor will review your evidence against the unit criteria. 
  3. Reference Call – As part of the verification process, you must provide contact details of two professional referees who have worked with you on jobs/projects.

RPL can help reduce the amount of study time required to receive a formal qualification. If any gaps are identified, we will work with you to address them through site observations, videos, and/or formal training and assessment.

You may also be eligible for credit transfers. Credit transfers can be applied to your qualification if the unit of competency is deemed equivalent on the national register for vocational education and training. Acceptable documents include a statement of attainment, your record of results, or a valid USI transcript.

Step 3: Once our qualified assessors have assessed your portfolio, we may be in touch again if any additional evidence is required.

Step 4: You will receive your RPL outcome which will include details of the unit/s you have been awarded and if there is a need to undertake other units in the national program.
